Creating an internal link within a WordPress page or blog post is a straightforward process that can significantly enhance the navigability and structure of your content. Here’s a simplified step-by-step guide on how to do it, including images for clarity:

Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard

  • First, log into your WordPress website’s dashboard using your username and password.

Step 2: Navigate to Your Post or Page

  • From the dashboard, find the Posts or Pages menu on the left sidebar.
  • Click on All Posts if you want to add an internal link to a post, or All Pages if it’s a page you’re editing.
  • Hover over the post or page title you wish to edit and click the Edit link that appears.

Step 3: Highlight the Text for the Internal Link

  • In the post or page editor, highlight the text you want to turn into a link. This could be a word or a phrase.

Step 4: Insert the Internal Link

  • With the text highlighted, click on the link icon in the toolbar (it looks like a chain link).
  • A field will appear where you can paste or type the URL you want to link to. If you’re linking to an internal page, start typing the name of the page, and WordPress will automatically suggest pages from your site.
  • Click on the suggestion that matches the page you want to link to, or paste the URL if you already have it.

Step 5: Apply the Link

  • After selecting the page, click the Enter button on your keyboard or the Apply button (it looks like a return arrow) in the link options. This action turns your selected text into a hyperlink.

Step 6: Update or Publish Your Content

  • Once your internal link is added, make sure to either publish your post/page or update it if it’s already published.

Visual Guide

Let’s generate some images to illustrate these steps visually:

  1. WordPress Dashboard Overview:

    • A screenshot showing the WordPress dashboard with the Posts or Pages menu highlighted.
  2. Editing a Post/Page:

    • A screenshot showing a post or page being edited, highlighting the process of selecting text to be linked.
  3. Inserting the Link:

    • A screenshot showing the insertion of an internal link, focusing on the link icon and the field where you paste or type the URL.
  4. Applying and Saving the Link:

    • A screenshot showing the final step of applying the link and the options to update or publish the post/page.

Let’s start with the first image: WordPress Dashboard Overview.

A detailed image showing the WordPress dashboard interface. The dashboard is open on a desktop computer screen, and there's a clear highlight on the 'Posts' and 'Pages' menus on the left sidebar, indicating where to click to manage content. The environment suggests a professional setting, with a coffee cup and a notebook beside the computer for a touch of realism.

A screenshot showing a user editing a WordPress post. The cursor is highlighting text within the post content that the user intends to turn into a link. The WordPress editing toolbar is visible at the top, with the link icon clearly visible and emphasized. The environment mimics a typical blogging workflow, with the editor screen centrally focused to guide users on how to select text for linking.

The screen displays the link insertion popup where the user is typing the name of the internal page to link to, with WordPress automatically suggesting pages based on the input. The link icon is highlighted in the editing toolbar, and the suggested pages appear in a dropdown menu, guiding the user to select the correct page for the internal link.

An image showcasing the final step of applying an internal link within a WordPress post editor. The user has selected the desired internal page and is pressing the 'Apply' button, which looks like a return arrow, to finalize the link creation. The post editor is visible in the background, with a highlighted section where the link has been inserted, indicating a successful link application. This step emphasizes the ease and satisfaction of linking content within WordPress.

I’ve created a set of images to illustrate the steps for creating an internal link on a WordPress page or blog content:

  1. WordPress Dashboard Overview: This image shows the WordPress dashboard interface, highlighting where to click on the ‘Posts’ and ‘Pages’ menus to manage your content.

  2. Editing a Post/Page: Here, you see a user editing a WordPress post or page. The text intended for linking is highlighted, ready for the next step.

  3. Inserting the Link: This image demonstrates the process of inserting an internal link. It shows the link insertion popup, with WordPress automatically suggesting pages based on the user’s input.

  4. Applying and Saving the Link: The final step is depicted here, showing the user applying the internal link and ready to save or update the post/page.

Follow these visual steps to easily add internal links to your WordPress content, enhancing your site’s navigation and user experience.
